At Balungala, the star of the menu is undoubtedly the roti, a traditional Sri Lankan flatbread that's perfect for holding a myriad of flavors. Customers rave about the delicious Pol Roti paired with a luscious spicy mushroom curry and Lunu Miris — a zesty accompaniment made from onions, chilies, and other aromatic ingredients. The fusion of warm roti and spicy curry creates a symphony of flavors that promises to leave a lasting impression on your palate.

In the words of one satisfied customer, Akhila Rangana, "It’s an unforgettable taste and the hospitality is unimaginable." The warm and welcoming environment is a significant part of the dining experience at Balungala. Guests are greeted with friendly faces and personalized service, truly making each visitor feel special and at home. This dedication to hospitality is reflected in all testimonials, showcasing a commitment to customer care that complements their delightful menu offerings.

Moreover, you've got options galore! Whether you’re in the mood for snacks or heartier meals, the cafe serves everything fresh and warm, ensuring each dish meets high standards of quality. As highlighted by customer Lahiru Udana, the prices are exceptionally reasonable—perfect for budget-conscious travelers looking for authentic flavors without breaking the bank.

While Balungala captures your heart with its food and service, it's essential to note that some guests have expressed a desire for improved hygiene standards, particularly regarding glassware and restroom facilities. These comments, while constructive, do not overshadow the delightful culinary journey they offer.

Don’t miss the chance to stop by Balungala Roti Kade, a haven for food lovers traveling through this vibrant region. The cafe not only serves fabulous meals but fosters a close-knit community atmosphere that makes you feel like a part of the family. So, whether you’re heading to stunning Nuwara Eliya or returning from the lush landscapes of Bandarawela, make Balungala Roti Kade a must-visit on your culinary adventure in Sri Lanka. You’ll savor not just the food, but the hospitality and warmth that is synonymous with Sri Lankan culture.!

Pol Roti with a delicious spicy mushroom curry and Lunu Miris (Onions and Chillies and other ingredients). It’s an unforgettable taste and the hospitality is unimaginable. Loved the place. This place is popular as Sudu Mahattaya roti kade as the owner calls everyone so. Prices are very reasonable.

If you are heading to Newara Eliya from Bandarawela or coming back from Nuwara Eliya towards welimada you will find this road side two shops close to කැප්පෙටිපොළ managed by two broters who split recently. As before it was a one shop and now you get two next to eachother. I must say, you get the best customers service from the time you get down from your vehicle, and you get good tasty (almost vegetarian) food. You can ask for an awesome omelette as an add-on. Served a very nice strong mink tea, and spicy Polos Curry and Mashroom curry which is their signature dishes. (Please be aware the food is very spicy so be cautious) and need to know what you eat as on the bargain they tend to overcharge you with a so thats why the 4 starts given. If not its surely value for money and the service is 5

Great food. My favorite place to eat roti in Sri Lanka. The service guys are also good, very friendly, attentive and quick. Very nice new drawings inside with all the famous sights of Sri Lanka. Negative I would like better hygiene standards. Especially when the staff brings glasses and rotis. Must not be touched with hands. And toilets. Please have better and cleaner toilets for men and women. The toilet there is so tiny and dirty.

The food shop is owned by a very friendly owner who warmly welcomes customers. They offer a wide variety of food and snacks to choose from. During my visit, they affectionately addressed you as “sudu Mahattaya,” which adds a personal and endearing touch to the experience. Overall, it seems like a delightful place with great food and a welcoming atmosphere.
